How did YOU get started selling art?
In his The Abundant Artist blog, Cory Huff asks: how did you get started selling art? Were you always an artist or did you have a previous incarnation? (See, http://theabundantartist.com/how-do-i-start-selling-art/)
I had a previous incarnation. In my previous life, long ago on a faraway planet, I was a trial lawyer in Phoenix, Arizona. Time, circumstances, and the winds of fate eventually brought me to Denver. I tried starting over as a lawyer but rather quickly discovered that I no longer loved the job. After several missteps with other professions, I answered the age old life coaching question: "What would you do if you knew you could not fail?" with "I'd be an artist".
After answering this question, I started taking classes at the Art Students League of Denver. My art mentor told me that I was good enough to sell and that I'd better start selling or eventually I'd be found buried under a landslide of my canvasses. So I signed up for the Art Students League of Denver Summer Art Market. I sold 13 pieces. I was launched! I've been selling art ever since.
So, what's your story? How did you get started selling art?
