Which Side is Up? Do we ever know?

"Crux"

Rhetorical and philosophical question aside, which side goes up is a perpetual "issue" for me.  Not a big issue, mind you.  After all, if my collectors wish to change the orientation later, they may.  However, often when a piece is "done", I'm not sure which side is up.  Yes, that does seem like a very odd problem.  Even on George W. Bush's portraits one can tell which side is up and which isn't.

But I work in resin.  Resin flows; it moves, it changes, it starts out as one thing and ends up as another.  Resin's inherent uncontrollability is what I like best about it.  I never quite know what is going to result from my day's labor.

So, on the piece pictured, "Crux", which side is up?

If you want to see the piece in "real life", it is now hanging at Artists on Santa Fe Gallery.  Hope it's right side up!
