You know how olives and sardines are an acquired taste? Well, IMHO Meow Wolf is too. Gotta tell ya that some “Art” stuff (and I use the word “art” loosely) is a waste of time and money. Some edgy art stuff is just not my cup o’tea.
Like Meow Wolf. What a production! Pricey ($45) and, adding insult to injury, you have to pay to park ($5). I hate paying to park. I expected … well, I’m not quite sure what I expected but multiple floors of stuff glued to walls and weird, surreal objects wasn’t it. I somehow thought it would be super charming. Not so much. It was ok. I don't regret going. Once. I don’t expect to ever go back. Been there, done that. Once you’ve seen it, you’re done. Stick-a-fork-in-me type done. Ray Rinaldi, the art reviewer for the Denver Post said it well in an article for the New York Times: Immersive installations like Meow Wolf bill themselves as art, but they fit better into the category of entertainment venue, more like Disney World Resort, than MoMA. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/09/24/arts/design/meow-wolf-denver-convergence-station.html If you love Disney World, Meow Wolf is your jam. If you love art, well, maybe Meow Wolf is an acquired taste. Or maybe not. Meanwhile from the studio, here is one of my latest:
ROLLING IN THE DEEP – from the Adele song. 24'x36'. I created Rolling by a new to me process – blowing resin with a hairdryer. I’d have to say it worked, right? What do you think? Hit “reply” and let me know. Btw, Feel free to forward this newsletter to anyone who might find it interesting. And please follow me on Instagram and Facebook for near-daily pictures of my art in progress as well as the occasional creation video. Also btw, I renamed my newsletter “Art Insiders”. You all are insiders with a special first look at my work and first crack at any available “deals”. You’re special and I want to remind you of just how special you are to me. Thanks for subscribing. Until our next chat, be safe out there, Art Insiders. Pat
